Environmental work required in response to the release of chemicals to the environment can and generally does result in expensive investigation and remedial measures.  Whether related to leaking petroleum storage tanks (USTs or ASTs), bulk chemical storage facilities, or lanfills, one thing remains constant: the proper understanding of basic hydrogeologic principals is critical to the overall success of the investigation and remediation effort.

Formal hydrogeologic training and experience gained through investigations at hundreds of chemical release sites allows OAI to target limited funds at defining the problem, planning the appropriate response and implementing a remedial effort to address regulatory requirements.  OAI knows that failure to understand the hydrogeology of the contamination site and the regulatory intent to address the contamination, whether petroleum or hazardous waste, can and will result in incomplete assessments and ineffective remedial actions.

Examples of our experience include:
  • testing, planning, selection and installation of a free product recovery system that recovered 2,700+ gallons of gasoline with only 219 gallons of water from a sand and gravel aquifer over a 12-day pumping period.  The recovered gasoline was recycled.
  • technical review of a facility with a documented release of dense non-aqueous phase liquids which is located within a wellhead protection area of our client's public supply well; the review identified significant areas of concern to our client's well
  • emergency response assessment and initial remedial action associated with a crop duster crash that released 2-4-D to cattle watering ponds
  • technical review and follow-up remedial actions at a former automobile service station to segragate hazardous from non-hazardous waste for disposal purposes
If you have a troublesome site that seems to suffer from endless investigations or ineffective remedial measures or if you are concerned about a  facility with a reported chemical release near your facility, perhaps its time for a technical review by OAI.
